Danfoss Brand Thermostatic Expansion Valve in Marine Air Conditioning and Refrigeration System

No.TE 5
The Danfoss TE5 Thermostatic Expansion Valve is the basic model in the Danfoss TE 5-55 series, which is used in marine refrigeration and air conditioning systems. By sensing the superheat degree of the refrigerant at the outlet of the evaporator, it precisely adjusts the flow of liquid refrigerant entering the evaporator, making it a core component for ensuring efficient and stable system operation.

Core Features

• Modular design:
Utilizing interchangeable flow port components facilitates inventory management, capacity matching, and maintenance replacement.

• High durability: The actuating components, capillary tubes, and temperature sensing bulbs made of stainless steel exhibit high corrosion resistance, strength, and shock resistance. The thermal sensing components utilize Danfoss's renowned laser welding technology, ensuring a longer lifespan.

• Broad operating range:
The evaporation temperature range is wide, with the N series covering from -40°C to +10°C and the B series from -60°C to -25°C, encompassing various operating conditions from cryogenic freezing to air conditioning.

Split valve design: It comprises three parts: the temperature sensing element, the valve core, and the valve body, featuring a compact structure.

• Optional MOP function:
Provides maximum operating pressure (MOP) charging characteristics, effectively preventing compressor motor damage caused by excessively high evaporation pressure and enhancing system reliability.

• Easy to install:
The patented dual-contact temperature probe cartridge design ensures quick installation and maintains excellent heat transfer between the temperature probe and the pipeline.

Selection

The complete model number of the Danfoss TE5 valve typically consists of the valve body type code, refrigerant code, capacity code, and other components.

1. Valve body type and refrigerant code
TEX5: Applicable to R22 refrigerant
• TEN5: Applicable to R134a refrigerant
• TEZ5: Applicable to R407C refrigerant
• TES5: Applicable to R404A/R507 refrigerant

2. Key steps
Confirm the refrigerant:
First, determine the valve series based on the type of refrigerant used in the system (e.g., select TES5 for R404A).
• Calculate the required cooling capacity:
Based on the cooling capacity of the compressor, make adjustments according to operating conditions such as evaporation temperature, condensation temperature, and subcooling degree. The capacity of the expansion valve should be slightly larger than the demand of the evaporator.
• Determine the evaporation temperature range:
Select the corresponding model based on whether the application is for air conditioning and refrigeration (N range) or low-temperature freezing (B range).

Key Features

By adjusting the flow rate of liquid refrigerant entering the evaporator, the refrigerating capacity can be controlled. Its temperature sensing element can detect the degree of superheat of the refrigerant, ensuring stable outlet temperature of the evaporator, making it particularly suitable for "dry" evaporator scenarios.

Installation Key Points

1. Installation location
It should be installed as close to the evaporator as possible, and the temperature sensing bulb must be tightly attached and securely fixed on the horizontal pipe section at the outlet of the evaporator.

2. External balance tube
TE5 is an external balance expansion valve, and it is necessary to connect the external balance tube correctly to the evaporator outlet to ensure the adjustment accuracy of the valve.

3. Superheat adjustment
There is an adjusting screw on the valve body, which can be used for fine adjustment of superheat. The adjustment should be based on the actual superheat during stable operation of the system.

4. Torque requirement
Tighten according to the standard torque during installation. The recommended torque for the TE5 valve body is 10 N·m (±5%).

Summary

The Danfoss TE5 thermostatic expansion valve maintains strong market vitality in small and medium-sized refrigeration and air conditioning systems, thanks to its reliable performance, wide applicability, and modular design that facilitates easy selection and maintenance. Its stainless steel components and laser welding process ensure longevity and stable control under harsh environments.
